Picture
Utthita means extended. Hasta refers to the hands.  Pādānguṣtā means big toe.  In this posture we stand on one leg and the other leg is kept extended to the front by holding its big toe.

Technique:

  • Stand in Tāḍāsana.
  • Exhale, raise the right leg by bending at knee and hold the big toe of right leg with right hand.
  • Rest the left hand on the left hip and balance. Take two breaths.
  • While exhaling, stretch the right leg forward so that it should be parallel to the ground.
  • Now hold the right big toe with the other hand also and with exhalation bend forward and place your chin on the right knee gaze at the right big toe.
  • Take few deep breaths in the final posture.
  • Exhale, release the hands and lower the leg to the floor.
  • Repeat the same on the other side.
